Last month SunKast held auditions in search for a new bassist. They set the bar high, looking for someone ready to take on their full set let. The band couldn’t be more excited to announce their new bassist: Rhett Walde.
Rhett has been playing guitar for a couple of years and only decided to try bass out of interest in joining SunKast. With just a few weeks on bass, Rhett auditioned with the band and blew them away! By his first official practice he had learned almost every song in the current set list, and he joined the band for the first time on stage last night at a private event in Auburn, Calif., where they absolutely slayed.
Welcome to the band, Rhett!
With the pending departure of bassist Miguel, SunKast is auditioning new bassists!
Do you know an 11- to 14-year-old bassist in the Roseville/Rocklin area with a passion for rock music? Talk with them about auditioning to join SunKast.

SunKast was formed last year just after the 2024 Rocking Bach2Rock Battle of the Bands. That year, Jack and Miguel were in Maximum Mayhem and Brooks and Harper were in Toxic Toads. The two bands took second and third place, respectively, but both bands lost members following the competition (which is not unusual for a youth band). The loss was also a blessing, though—leading to Jack, Miguel, Harper, and Brooks forming SunKast!
Fueled by a shared desire to win in 2025, the members of SunKast have been hard at work for the past year. And this year, they won the Rocklin competition and are moving on to the National Bach2Rock Battle of the Bands!
